Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Is there a difference between silencers and suppressors?
There is no difference.  By definition, the primary role of a silencer is to reduce the overall sound signature of the host firearm to safe hearing levels.

2.  Do I need a special license to own a silencer?
No you do not.  You do have to pay a one-time $200 tax stamp per silencer purchased.  This is a lot like a sales tax that goes directly to the government.

3.  Can I use my silencer on multiple firearms?
Yes, as long as the barrels are threaded in a way that will accept the silencer.

4.  Can I use my silencer for multiple calibers?
You can use a large caliber silencer to suppress a smaller caliber firearm as long as you have the appropriate adaptors.

5.  Will my silencer increase my accuracy?
One of the most common problems for shooters is decreased accuracy caused by flinching in anticipation of the firearms discharge and recoil.  By containing the explosion at the muzzle, reducing recoil, and decreasing muzzle flip, silencers dramatically increase accuracy, especially among new and inexperienced shooters.

6.  How will my silencer attach to my firearm?
Some barrels are pre-threaded while others have to be threaded.  Threaded barrels can be purchased and installed on certain firearms.  Some silencers attach to a muzzle brake that is preinstalled on the firearm.

7.  How quiet is a silenced firearm?
This depends on the firearm, silencer, and ammunition.  Bolt action rifle is quieter than a semi-automatic rifle.  Subsonic ammunition will be quieter than supersonic ammunition.  Some combinations work better than others.

8. How long does it take to register a silencer?
Transfer time has varied from as little as two months to as much as ten months over the last decade.

9. How long will my silencer last?
If used within the intended use of the device, it will last virtually indefinitely.

10. How do I sell my NFA item?
If you have a registered silencer, short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun or machine gun that you would like to sell, contact us at [email protected]. Include a picture and description of the item along with a phone number at which we can reach you.
If you come into possession an unregister NFA item (which carries substantial penalties), contact the nearest ATF office immediately.

11. Do I need to clean my silencer?

In general, silencers require very little maintenance. The exterior surface of your silencer should be maintained the same as any other firearm.

Wipe with a light coat of gun oil to clean, restore, and protect the external finish. We recommend cleaning the mount of silencers with a quick disconnect feature every 250-300 rounds. Disassemble the mount, clean any carbon build-up from the components and lubricate with any high temp grease. This will keep the mount functioning properly. Rimfire suppressors require more maintainence and should be disassembled for

cleaning after every 500 rounds.

Contact the manufactuer of the silencer for their reccomended cleaning procedure if you have any questions.
